Thank you so much for your lovely comment! I know, we don’t really know these things, so we all just learn as we go. It certainly can be tricky, and the birth mother letter sometimes causes stress for adoptive parents. In fact, I am sure what works best is simplicity, sincerity, and telling your story so that you come across on the pages. I hope your wait is short and I know that you will one day be a mom! Ann

Ann & Eric,
I am a few weeks behind your timeline for networking and preparing. I found the same site suggesting avoiding “birthmom”. I decided to go with “Hello.” Who would have thought it would be this tricky? Of course, I have written and rewritten this letter so many times, stressing out over every detail (how many words are enough/ too much? what font is friendliest? does this page need another picture? etc.).
I love your blog (actually I am jealous of what an amazing job you have done ), and I will visit it daily. You have great information. You seem like wonderful people, and I hope you and I become parents soon. Thanks for sharing all of your information.

Thanks for your comment and for reading! It is difficult, isn’t it? And it really depends on what each individual is personally comfortable with. I have a good imagination, so I can picture most of what we’d like in the room, and when our baby comes we can just get to it and pick up what we need when we need it.

I was just reading your blog (it got linked to mine as similar) and I totally am having the same feelings you are having right now! We havent even had our home study yet, but since its a completely empty bedroom (we arent using it for anything right now since we just moved 8 months ago, I couldnt picture going through the work of making it a guest room when thats not what I want it to be!) the desire to fill it is so strong. We had a crib given to us, but besides that, we haven’t gotten anything. I will keep reading!

Hi. Thank you so much for beginning a blog! My husband and I are in the beginning phase of our adoption journey. We have decided we want to do a domestic adoption. We are in Ohio. We have been doing hours upon hours of research and we too have started a blog. Our next step is to search for a place to do our home study and find an agency! We have put in a few applications and we have a phone meeting with an out of state agency next Friday! So excited:) Thanks again for you postings. Its nice to read about others steps!

Understandably it can be incredibly discouraging, because let’s face it when you’re ready your ready! Having said that, there is a child who Is meant to be yours, but that baby may not have even been conceived yet. So keep moving forward and keep enjoying every day- take it from us … In the end , tHe pain is forgotten and every step of the journey becomes your family’s story – and that is a joyful gift and blessing.

I ran across your blog and feel like I could have written the exact same post! We are going through the same thoughts. For now, we have decided on a car seat and a small bag of baby items – diapers, onesies, wipes, etc. We know that the rest will come one way or another.
